Rose, in her black makeup, is surprised at how many references are made to race as she accompanies a black friend from poetry class, but she and her mom are even more surprised at the shoddy treatment they receive from their white neighbors. When black son Nick says he isn’t offended when his classmates use the “”n”” word, his dad takes him to a black barbershop to become more familiar with his cultural heritage. White dad Bruno shows his anti-rap video to the families, which is so obnoxious it even offends his wife.
